The Mayan calendar doesn't end on 12-21-12.... It simply goes from Long count to extended count. That is, instead of being to the 20th power, it jumps to the 30th power. It's the end of the long count's first cycle, nothing more. It's also a great way for people to make money with apocalypse themed bullshit.

Read this and be among the non foolish people, we have cookies!
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Maya_calendar

From the above:
"Misinterpretation of the Mesoamerican Long Count calendar is the basis for a New Age belief that a cataclysm will take place on December 21, 2012. December 21, 2012 is simply the first day of the 14th b'ak'tun."

Just giving my viewpoint of the timeline. Everyone else's, of course, will be different.

Lots of people believe the world will end in 2012. Then again, lots of people believe in God and that Jesus died on the cross for our sins.

Conclusion: People are gullible and superstitious and have abysmally low standards in terms of evidence and their beliefs.

Suggestion: Gain some self respect.

A Moon impact with the asteroid would be Incredible looking. I mean, wow that would be so awesome to see. But then it might crack in half and then wed have something much bigger than the asteroid plowing into the planet. But at least we'd get to see something that awesome happen before we all died. Am I really that effed in the head or does that sound cool?!?

Now that I look at it, I think it's kinda bullshitty if the world ends on 12-21-12. Realy, they had to flip the day around? Why not 12-12-12?

Well, if there's going to be mass death, we might as well see something super amazing like that before we die.

The Mayan's just didn't (lazy) make a calender after 2012, in 100000 years when that generation find our topless models calenders I'm sure they will laugh at our stupidity. For them it will be like us looking at a calender of topless chimpanzees
